SPEAK: Awaken By the Spirit — Repeat after me … “I AM WORTHY” (then repeat again)

womaninmirrorThree simple words, “I am worthy”. But so challenging for most of us to SPEAK and to acknowledge. Owning our self-worth, however, is the only way to tap into, AWAKEN and activate our spiritual power.

Without recognition that we were made in the image and likeness of the Divine — and are therefore worthy of all that God is — we cannot be a reflection of God’s Light and Love here on earth. We also cannot expect others to acknowledge in us what we cannot embrace.

The best (and only way) to teach others about your worth is to show by example in the way you treat yourself. People will see your worth when you walk and talk confidently and fearlessly in the light of your own personal spiritual power.

Share Your Truth

“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.” -Galileo Galilei

In our quest to find inspiration and wisdom for this month’s theme, SHARE, we came across this amazing project called “My Seed of Truth”. It invites people across the globe to share publicly or privately their “truth”.

The spoken word has POWER. And when you SPEAK words with power and conviction you give them life. So it’s vital to ensure your YES means YES and your NO means NO. And to remember the creative power in the spoken word. Our best example? The fact that God spoke … and then there was.

So we invite you to visit http://www.myseedoftruth.com and to SHARE your truth. Everything isn’t for everybody. But at the end of the day, you don’t have to tell the world. The person you really need to speak truth to … is yourself.

SPEAK: Resolve By The Spirit — The “Live with Purpose” Decree

The “Live with Purpose” Decree

January 13, 2012

True confession:  I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions.  There was a time when what I like to call my “functional OCD” sent me into full detail mode over each section of my life to be re-purposed and newly “resolution-ed”.   After two years of making detailed lists during the hype of the season and then lamenting over how many I didn’t achieve by March,  I finally resolved to do my resolutions around the time of my birthday instead.

It felt more like a natural time of renewal and reawakening for me.   Since my birthday also came in the Fall, there was a natural feeling of change that came along with the season.  This seemed to help me take some of the pressure off and begin to approach it in a more humane way.

But I must admit (second confession), that this year, more than any other, I did want to make some solid commitments going into this bright new year…to enhance those I created around the time of my birthday.

I realized that I didn’t want to write mere resolutions that bartered with my will to make well-meaning, but sometimes easily abandoned things-to-do lists.  I wanted to actually commit to the activities and mindsets that I had come to practice over the past year, and bring them more fully into the new year.

Writing this month for BTS around the topic of RESOLVE made me think.  The word ‘resolve’ holds a kind of reverence when you say it.  Just  using the word ‘resolve’ makes anything you say sound so much more official and enduring.   So I wrote my list and said each resolution out loud.  The words seemed to hold much more weight and I felt as if I were writing an annual “Living with Purpose” decree! I love massages!  Whether it be a basic Swedish massage, or the caring hands of a friend or loved one, the comfort and release of tension can be heavenly.  I love the euphoric feeling afterwards when tense muscles finally release their grip on whatever matters, thoughts and stresses that have built up over the days and months.

I remember my first professional massage at a spa.  I felt like royalty!  The staff offered me water with a hint of mint and cucumber and offered me a soft robe and slippers (that I was sad to have to return at the end of my appointment).  The scent of lavender filled my room and the music immediately put me in a meditative state.  The masseuse asked questions about my tension, any aches or injuries and then swiftly went about working to relax and soothe each muscle.

If you ask me, I think I have a knack for coming up with rebuttals.  When I was young, I’d treat most every “No” my mother doled out as an opportunity to re-think and refute (a “talent” that put me in timeout more often than I care to remember).  So it’s no wonder when I got to high school I was immediately drawn to the Debate class and Forensics team.  There, my ability to argue a point down to its barest essentials was highly rewarded.

In those settings I learned how an argument was presented; as a resolution: a topic that two sides would debate, one team would be set out to affirm the topic, while the other positioned itself to negate the issue.  Teams would relish in finding a fact that would surely put the other team’s argument to rest, or better still, launch a well-placed quote into debate and render another person’s point mute.

Ah! It was the stuff that all great arguments are made of!

While many of us may not have joined a debate team, it is still easy for us to fall into a debate-filled approach when communicating or disagreeing with a loved one.  We are prone to hold on to our respective “sides” and defend them at any cost.

When the other person questions our position, we may become defensive and more deeply entrenched in our point of view.   We find ourselves locked into a verbal (and emotional) battle of wills, silently fearful that to relinquish even a little bit of our stand would mean undoing our very personal foundation.

We forget, that by the very act of choosing to be in relationship, we are, in fact, on the same “team”.

I once found myself in a full-out argument with someone I was dating over which water filter to buy of all things!  I found that my argument over which filter would filter water the best had little to do with deep research or studies that showed why this or that brand was more effective.  It, in fact, had everything to do with me believing that somehow my opinion being accepted or negated was tied into my very value and self-importance.  Continue reading
