…To Show Up Like Christ

We know the Christmas story. It’s a beautiful one. An angel of GOD comes to a seemingly normal young woman and asks her to deliver the Savior into the world during an appointed time of peril.

Well, we’re in an appointed time of peril now. The time is ripe. The world still needs saving! GOD sent Jesus to show us the way. He came so that we may have life and have it to the full (John 10:10), but how many do not know the CHRIST of Christmas? How many souls in a lost and hurting world feel like they’ve never seen Jesus at work, like He’s just some age-old character in a fairytale?

Just like more than 2,000 years ago, the world needs to see Jesus. WE are the arms, the hands, the ears, the feet, the heart of a very living Savior, and we’re already serving our purpose this HOLYday season. This time of year, people are more prone to serve in soup kitchens, participate in charitable endeavors, give gifts to others. And Jesus – The Ultimate Sacrificial Lamb – is the greatest gift of all! But sharing in the inheritance, as we do, of the King of kings, it is time for us to take our rightful place as royalty.

As I contemplated this piece and the recent messages about being very focused on what you want at the culmination of 2011, I realized that the two things I most want to see manifest in my life would actually be wonderful ways to minister, to serve GOD by showing up for others and emulating the goodness and grace of Christ. I chuckled, because up until now, I thought they were just my personal dreams. But GOD puts those dreams, those desires in our hearts, and little do we know, the world is waiting on us – with the same hopeful expectancy of 2000 years ago – to just show up. And as we mindfully go through this CHRISTmas season, let us become that very gift to the world for which we are waiting.
