“Sunshine all the time makes a desert.” Arab proverb

When I first heard this quote it hit me like a runaway train. Bam! I never saw the lesson coming but when I heard it, the sentiment resonated deeply within me.

Despite being the “SHINE” contributor, quiet as it’s kept my light isn’t always blinding. Sometimes when life and circumstances cast a shadow over me, even I struggle to find my light.

They say when the student is ready the teacher appears. Today, this quote was my teacher.

A “less than luminous” state can really get to you when you know intellectually about a higher spiritual path and seek to “walk the walk” and use your life as an example for others. The truth is, however, spiritual enlightenment doesn’t immune you from the realities of having a very human experience as a result of the hurt, loss and suffering that come with living sometimes.

The quote touched and blessed me. It gave me permission to breathe, to pause and to give myself space to accept what my mind, body and spirit were saying … it’s okay to be human because God’s light never dims.

The “human” me was reminded of what my higher divine Self never forgets; there is a season, a time, a process and a place for everything and I am not alone. And even as miraculous, awesome, beautiful and necessary as the Sun is to our very existence, if it shone all the time without ceasing we would quickly burn up, wither and die.

As Ecclesiastes 3 teaches, “to everything there is a season.” From a simple cycle of an in and out breath, to the ebb and flow of the tide, to the changing of the seasons, to the rising and setting of the sun; everything has a purpose and happens, changes and evolves in its own divine time.

We sow, we reap. We laugh, we cry. We wake, we rest. We live, we learn. We burn brightly, we recharge.

And then – with the blessed assurance of the Creator’s presence every step of the way – we resolve to SHINE again.
