Real Resolutions

December 13, 2011

As tradition bestows, during the last month of December, some of us think long and hard at what we would like to change or accomplish for our next year. Often times this is weight loss or health related, however a resolution can be just about anything, from improving yourself to improving relationships around you.

As many members of a gym or clinic can attest, their businesses are booming in January, but by around March, this trend quickly dies down; in est, people give up. Why do we start our goals but do not finish them? Our aspirations completely die down because of many reasons, one in particular: We are not seeing the results we expected to see by this time.

There are a few rules to keep our resolutions strong and to achieve the goals we have set at the previous year. The first is to set realistic expectations for your goals. For weight loss, walking into that gym and lifting weights for a month will not allow that extra thirty pounds to melt off. With a diet change and a good work out regime these results will be achieved, but in due time. Secondly, research your goal so you are aware of how much time and effort it takes to get to the top. If you have a health ailment and have had your doctor request a diet change, be sure to research what type of foods will help you reach your goal.

A little reading goes a long way and it is best to fully understand the steps of your goal before you reach for the top. Lastly, have faith. You will persevere. The road is never easy, but it is the climb that is the exciting part, it is argued that the way up is as good as the view from the top.

In Mark 11, 22-24 Jesus states: “Have faith in God.  Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you.”

Keep your wits about you and make sure that these reoccurring resolutions you may have end here with this coming year!
