Increase Your Patience

We are in a society that when we want something, we want it immediately. The new sound system must be charged on the already over-extended credit card or we rush to buy the new house we can barely afford.

This “right here and right now” attitude does not work. Those with massive credit card debt or people who are “mortgage poor” (when your mortgage is so large that your income can only go to the mortgage) are now in trouble. If it were only for a bit of patience, they may not have been in this situation.

Patience is a virtue. When one learns to be patient, it is possible to analyze each situation. With some thought and research, the person who wanted a new sound system realizes that there are better deals later in the year, thus he waits and receives the same system for half the price. The people who rush to buy the new house have time to be patient enough to realize that the house of their dreams really is not what they need at this moment. They choose an equally desirable house, for a fraction of the price. Therefore, with patience we sometimes see situations differently.

Patience gives us time to analyze each situation. Often times an impulse buy or decision is calmed with the virtue of patience. Initially being patient and holding back in impulse buys and decisions can be hard. When you want something, you should get it, right? However, with patience, the outcome is a lot better. One can save a lot of time, pain, and money.

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” ~ Jean Jacques Rousseau

In time, to increase your patience pays off ten fold. Whether it be to re-analyze an impulse buy or to have patience with a feuding family member or friend, taking the time to see the situation in a different way may be the difference between a fight with others or a few thousand dollars. Patience is a virtue and it takes a strong-willed person to possess it.
