With the evolution of media in the last half century, we have all become more aware of each other. With every news report we learn about different areas of our own country and others, their achievements, trials, tribulations, celebrations and massacres. From our television, we mourn for our brothers and sisters around the world when they are at war, and celebrate their accomplishments during peace. However, when we see suffering, the world is in unison, “ARE YOU THERE GOD?”

Could God actually be watching his most precious creations suffer through war, conflict and upheaval? How can we feel God when people are starving, losing their jobs, their families, and homes? How can we help those suffering when we too are suffering? Where is God’s infinite love when we need it the most? Our prayers of help can be summed up, “Are you there God? It is us, humanity calling, why don’t you answer?”

God is indeed with us. God is listening, and God’s love will answer us. Let us reflect on the poem “Footprints.” When a man walks across the beach he sees two footprints in the sand, one of his own and one of Gods. The footprints on the beach represent the man’s life. During his times of struggle he notices only one set of footprints in the sand. He asks God why he was abandoned during the hardest times of his life. God answers, “My precious. precious child, you were not alone, for during your hardest times it was I who carried YOU.” God is gracious enough to give us free will and not to dictate each and every step of our lives. We may choose that path for ourselves. His love will guide us through the toughest times, not be absent. It is if we live our lives in his image of love that is our choice.

Let the spirit guide you in making good decisions during tough times. Help others always and give without expecting to receive. Show infinite love and support as God shows us.  If we believe in ourselves and give selflessly to others, we surely can be tuned in with our faith. God may not part the clouds and speak to us directly, but I always felt that God does not have to put on a huge spectacle for us to listen. Feel the love around you and absorb it, so you can transmit it to others. Open your mind and your heart through faith, so when you ask if God is listening, you may hear the answer, “I am here, and I am carrying you.”
