Everyone has heard the adage:  “If you don’t have anything nice to say…then don’t say anything.”

Well, yes…and no.

Yes.  It’s not always necessary to be right by sharing the absolute truth at all times in all circumstances.  Sometimes the timing of what you say is just as significant as what you say.  And often, a person sharing their thoughts, fears or worries isn’t looking for an opinion or advice but an attentive ear.

And then again…No.

Sometimes the honesty of your sincere and insightful feedback gives others the courage to step out of the shadows of their untruths to live more fully.  Perspective can hinder or inform.  Perspective that is blessed is insightful and insight that is guided by Spirit can infuse the gift of intuition.  This gift can make all the difference in helping a person heal from their own mental and emotional circumstances, even if what you have to say is not as “shiny” as they would hope.

When the moment calls for it, knowing (through prayerful discernment) what healing words to use can make all the difference in another person’s life. Know that through our words, we have the power to uplift, encourage, empower, change, challenge and transform!

Words that Heal…

  • Help me to understand…
  • How can I help?
  • Tell me how you feel.
  • I apologize.
  • You did your best.
  • You can do it!
  • I love you.
