Turn Off & Recharge

Forgive me for the simplicity of this post, but when the new theme was announced I immediately thought of my nearest piece of technology: my cell phone.  And the thought instantly came to mind, that when my cell phone needs to recharge, is does so best when it’s in ‘off’ mode.  Meaning, no incoming calls…no texting…no bells and whistles or tweets.  Just silence…off.

In less than 20 minutes in off mode while plugged in, my cell phone can regain at least half of its original energy.  And it made me think of how lately I have been so presumably busy, that often the first thing to go are the 10 minutes at the beginning and end of my day to “turn off” so to speak, and recharge.  If I were to take a lesson from something as simple as my cell phone, I’d say those 10 minutes are probably among the most significant of the day.

So here is to reclaiming the 5, 10, 20 minutes of our day for “offness” J

Turn off for 5 minutes…

Sit in the bathroom a few minutes longer….
Sit in the car for a few more minutes before returning to the office or going into the meeting…
Let the phone ring…call them back after your off time…

Turn off for 10 minutes…

Sit on your porch and watch people and traffic go by…
Enjoy a piece of fruit…enjoy each bite until it’s gone…then return to what you were doing…
Sit for a moment with a favorite pet…

Turn off for 20 minutes…

Walk leisurely around the block…take a deep breath after each 5th house or building…
Take a nap in your favorite chair or couch…
Sit in absolute silence…do nothing, think nothing…just breathe and recharge.

    • I’m glad it inspired you Denise. Yes take those moments…better yet enjoy them and embrace them. So many times we skip past them, but they are so needed for our continued success. And yes to good music to soothe the mind and spirit!
