Ask, Seek, Knock … and the Door Shall Be Opened

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)

This verse resonates profoundly with me. It reminds me that Spirit, although ever-present, still waits to be invited into our lives. We get to choose whether we want to rely on and trust in God and invite the Creator’s love into our lives … or whether we’ll go it alone.

As I reflected and meditated on this spiritual truth to prepare this post, I was lead to an insightful quote from A Course in Miracles:

“Love waits on welcome, not on time.”

In Matthew 7:7-8 Jesus makes clear, actually He promises, that when we pursue actively God’s love, God meets us where we are and opens doors. Period. The conditions to ask, seek, and knock precede the promise. And the promise, being unqualified, is certain.

So if God’s power and love is always there on the other side of the proverbial door waiting for your invitation, the question is … what are you waiting for?

When we wait, hesitate, or dwell in uncertainty, we actually choose to close off our access to God’s love. And that love is always there, waiting for us on the other side of this door of self-created and self-fulfilling fear. So the next time you become trapped in a cycle of fearful, faithless thinking that threatens to keep you separated from the Creator, keep this powerful quote in mind:

“Waiting for a powerful future is a way of making sure it never gets here.” A Return to Love, Marianne Williamson

It’s not that the door opens first so we can peek through to the other side before deciding whether to enter God’s love. We must demonstrate first our surrender and faith by turning the doorknob and breaking the threshold. We proactively trust in the power of God and make the desires of our hearts known so that those spirit-led desires manifest. And then, like the prodigal son, we are welcomed back home.

The Creator does not impose His plan on our lives. But He does have a plan. And He’s waiting to share it with you … on the other side of the door. Make the choice to ask, seek and knock today and be encouraged because the door shall be opened!

  1. Yes, he does have a plan for our lives. And when we actively (according to God’s abundant Love) align our plans with his plan: we always reap the very best of God’s will for our lives.

    God Bless.
