Open Up & Gift the World with Your Talents

A couple of months ago, I was about to do my Living Your G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Life WORKshop ™ for a women’s health convention, when I had an “aha” conversation with a friend.  As I prepared for the WORKshop ™, I decided to go for a walk with a friend and explained that the “A.T.”, in the G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T. Model, stands for Activates Talents. As we talked, my friend stated,

“we each have talents but it is not until we use them that they become gifts.” I walked in silence for a while.

The concept resonated so deeply inside of me.  Each of us are filled with Talents that are Gifts to other people, and the more we share our talents, the more we are giving gifts … our gifts … God’s gifts.

It is my belief that each of us are filled with talents, natural God-given ability.  For example, someone may be a talented singer, dancer, and/or writer, while someone else may be an excellent organizer, listener, and/or communicator.  Whatever the talent(s), when used, it is a gift to someone.

I know throughout life, many of us have been told to be humble … not to be “conceited or show off “.  However, for many people, “showing off” has been confused with “not sharing” and the result of not sharing our God-given talents has been that we have not been giving and exchanging the gifts that we have to give.

I can’t imagine walking into a vault and seeing a mound of unopened gifts with my name on them – – – anyone’s name for that matter.  I would spend time wondering why someone didn’t share these gifts … why did they leave the gifts unopened?  Biblically, I thought about Matthew 25: 14 – 30, the “Parable of the Talents”, and the importance of using and nurturing the talents that God has given us.  Each of us are like vaults, walking around with talents and gifts inside of us waiting to be opened, waiting to be used, waiting to be shared.

During the month of May, I encourage you to be Open By The Spirit …  and share your Talents, for they are Gifts to someone!

I would also like to take this moment to thank my friend for the enlightening conversation and for using her talents, which have been tremendous gifts to me and to others (Check out Hot Lips by Stephanie Renee).

God Bless and Continue to Live By the Spirit.

I look forward to hearing the ways in which you are gifting the world with your talents.

  1. Thank you Melvin for your response. I love the sentiment by Dr. King…it truly reminds me of the importance of interpersonal collaboration and cooperation instead of competition.

Also thank you for sharing more of your talents 🙂

    God Bless

  2. Every day we get at least one opportunity to share our talents/gifts with someone.

The “parable of the Talents” provids an excellent illustration of this. I’m also reminded of Dr. King:

Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.

Thank you for this post. I have recommitted to making time to share more of my talents.

    God bless.
