A few months ago, I was talking to a mentee about being on her “Divine Path”.  As the conversation continued, she equated her “Divine Path” with the “yellow brick road”.

Hmmmm…and then the song came “Ease on down, ease on down the road…don’t you carry nothin’ that might be a load, come on and ease on down, ease on down the road”.  What?  Right there all along.

If you follow your Divine Path, the “path of gold” aka the yellow brick road, you will ease on down the road.  Lay your burdens down so that your travel will be light and easy.  We sat in a moment of silence…my mind was churning…all I could think about was the number of stories that I heard about struggle and being “off of one’s path”.  The answer seemed so clear…get on your Divine Path but then came the question…How do you get on your Divine Path?

As a clinician, mentor, and life coach, I am always helping people to get clear about their personal truth and purpose by asking such questions as:

  • When have you been moved by God?
  • How do you know you have made the right decision?
  • When do you know that you need to make a change?  End a relationship?
  • What signs do you receive when it is time to make a decision and how many signs do you NEED to receive before you act on them?
  • What skills come easy?  What skills are difficult?
  • What have others said you should do versus what is your heart’s desire?

As the conversation unfolded, many truths were revealed and the picture of her life became clearer as the puzzle pieces of life were being placed in order.  We were able to rule out what she didn’t like and what she didn’t want to do.  We were able to identify what she did well and what she enjoyed doing.  We were able to tap into the truth of what she would love to do even if she didn’t get monetarily paid to do “it” because doing “it” was payment/fulfillment in and of itself.

Since that conversation, I have been more cognizant of staying on my “yellow brick road”.  I have spent time reflecting on my own professional journey, and I thought about the trips and turns that I have gone through…clear indicators when I was on and off of my “yellow brick road.”  I thought about the people who just seemed to “appear” to help me on my way to achieve my goals as well as those who “appeared” to let me know that I was going the WRONG way!!!

Understanding that Life is a Journey is one thing but being brave enough to embrace the journey is another.  As you are fortifying yourself and being led by Spirit, the strength to continue the journey, embrace the journey, and LIVE the journey becomes inevitable.  I encourage you to share the ways that you have been able to stay on your Divine Path and follow your yellow brick road.

God Bless and continue to Live By the Spirit!

14because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God

    • Thank you Melvin for this biblical reference. Romans 8 is such a powerful scripture overall! I look forward to hearing from you again.
