Let Go … Focus on the Plans

Last week truly tested every fiber of my emotional being. It was a week filled with petty issues of micro-management from a person who has low self-esteem and lacks the competence to adequately do her job. She over compensates by acting snobbish and often uses bullying antics when dealing with people.

Now I’ll be honest, I don’t kiss butt well and I have a very low tolerance for office politicking and power struggles. By Tuesday—TUESDAY! I’m talking about the second day of a new week… I was at my tipping point. All I wanted to say to this person was, “If you don’t leave me alone, I swear before the angels that watch over me—I’m going to snatch you!!” I said I wanted to say it—but I didn’t.

Wednesday came and she continued her aggravating behavior. Instead of engaging with her, I began to reach out to my God consciousness.  “GOD, I am your baby girl, you know how I am; and you know I CANNOT do crazy—I need you to give me strength. I need to know what to do to rise above this madness.”

Fortify yourself in God's plan for you

By the time I got home Wednesday evening, I was emotionally exhausted from all the drama. I retreated to my office, turned on some jazz to unwind and decided to go through my e-mails. As I went through each e-mail, attempting to let go of my anguish and resentment my internal spirit continued to petition God to fortify (protect and strengthen) me against this situation.  I then came across an e-mail from a friend and colleague that was simply titled “HELLO”. When I opened the e-mail the following words in BIG BOLD FONTS (size 24 fonts to be exact) jumped out at me.

For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13

As I read these words, the message was unmistakably clear—LET GO OF THAT… STAY FOCUSED ON THE PLANS.

I relaxed in my office chair, laid my head back gently on the back of the chair, rested my hands in my lap and released a huge sigh. As I smiled slightly from the acknowledgement that I called upon God and He was listening, I closed my eyes in solace and rested in the confidence of the plans for my future. I then said, Thanks God, for refortifying my heart and mind.

There will always be people who will test your emotional stability, you will not always be at the top of your game, and life will always present obstacles along your path. Too often, we surrender our sense of self, our confidence and our emotions over to others because we are not clear or connected to what builds us up and reinforces us. But when the day-to-day grind tries to diminish you, it will be the knowledge of the plans God has for your future that will fortify your will and determination to stay on track. Relaxing in the fact that you know the plans is often the only thing that can keep you strong in the midst of chaos, misdirection and detours.

Do you know what the plans are for you? Have you even bothered to do the work to make sure you understand the ins and outs of those plans? Are you fortifying yourself to accomplish the plans—in other words are you building up or increasing your knowledge, skills and abilities to carry out the plans? If not… then what are you waiting for?
