SHARE: Joy by the Spirit — The Spiritual Practice of JOY!

”Joy is an essential spiritual practice growing out of faith, grace, gratitude, hope, and love. It is the pure and simple delight in being alive. Joy is our elated response to feelings of happiness, experiences of pleasure, and awareness of abundance. It is also the deep satisfaction we know when we are able to serve others and be glad for their good fortune.”

A clock

The gift of 20 minutes!

When I sat down to write this message I thought I only had about twenty minutes. And quiet as it’s kept, I have too many message drafts to mention that would have needed way more than twenty minutes to go from great idea to completed inspiration. But still I was led to share this week. And so … in this post I offer ten things you can do in just twenty minutes to support your spiritual transformation and journey.

In twenty minutes you can …

  1. Pray & meditate [the gift of prayerthe gift of meditation]
  2.  Read your spiritual text  [Bible, Qur'an, Torah, A Course in Miracles, The Dhamma]
  3.  Laugh and/or cry [the gift of laughter]  [the gift of tears]
  4.  Listen (I mean really listen) to your child or significant other tell you about their day. [active listening]
  5.  Catch up with a friend you’ve been meaning to call or write. [the gift of friendships]
  6.  Write in your gratitude journal (or start one!). [the gift of gratitude]
  7.  Enjoy a delicious snack. [30 healthy snacks]
  8.  Exercise [the gift of physical fitness - 20 minute workouts]
  9.  Take a power nap [the gift of napping … oh how it’s wasted on the young!]
  10.  Listen to your favorite song on repeat and dance like no one’s watching! [free streaming on Pandora.com]

In just twenty minutes you can reach deeply within to reawaken that inner spiritual glow you might think you’ve lost. It’s there. It’s always there because the Creator put it there and promised never to leave or forsake you. And no matter how busy you are, or how sad, or discouraged, or depressed … when you give yourself or others the gift of twenty minutes, you’ll be amazed how brightly your light can SHINE!

P.S. This actually took me forty-five minutes to write … but it was worth every minute. I’m off to laugh now … then cry, then meditate, pray and dance like no one’s watching before my nap. What do you plan to do with your twenty minutes? No time like the present!

What Love Is!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

When in doubt, I always turn to this scripture to remind and guide me about what LOVE is. Whoever and whatever matches the words of 1 Corinthians 13 4-7 I seek more of and anything not aligned with the calling of these verses is not aligned with my divine nature as being created by a loving God and in that image and likeness.

Seek divine love. Be divine love. Share divine love.

~~ Today’s share is from Tonya “SHINE by the Spirit”

[The complete chapter]

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

The gift of givingDuring special times in our loved ones lives, we give them a gift to commemorate a time of celebration. Birthdays, anniversaries and special events are a few of the many milestones we share with others throughout life. Spending a lot of money on a gift is perceived by some as a way of showing the honoree they’re important. However, the most cherished gifts are those that are from the heart. How can we give more of those gifts?

Despite what each individual may think, each of us has a number of talents. Go into any church and their will be at least one person who has the most beautiful voice. Many people are talented artists, with no professional training. Others can write poetry, music or stories. Each person has a wealth of creativity that needs to be nurtured. What better way to do so then to let your talents soar at an anniversary, birthday, or wedding?

It would be no surprise that when one of us receives a poem of friendship over the years or a song sang to us on our anniversary that those are the moments that we remember. It is certain we will not remember every gift that we have ever received, but we truly recall, keep and cherish any homemade, cherished gift that comes from the talents and hearts of our families and friends. Let your creative juices flow and share your gifts by giving them to others. A gift from the heart is a gift never forgotten!

Clock

"... only when the clock stops does time come to life.”

Time is of the essence. No truer words have been spoken. Time is precious, time flies and yet, despite time’s miraculous bearing on our lives, we never have enough of it. We never have enough time to sit back and enjoy the little things, or to give ourselves a break. Many people feel time is of the enemy. However, it’s how we spend our time that either creates more or less precious moments for ourselves.

“I must govern the clock, not be governed by it.” ~ Golda Meir

It is time for everyone to analyze where time goes every day. After a long day at work, do we waste time watching television or are we enjoying our favorite pastimes? Do we play with our children, call an old friend or go outside for a while? Do we feed our bodies good, healthy foods so we have the energy to spend our time the way we want to?

Clocks slay time…time is dead as long as it is being clicked off by little wheels; only when the clock stops does time come to life.” ~ William Faulkner

Though it is good to be organized and at times exact with how time is spent, it is very healthy, especially for children to have days where there is no schedule, where one can be spontaneous or lazy and allow life to guide your day rather than time. When decisions are always regimented, we miss out on life’s little curves that could show us a brand new perspective. By increasing your personal time, we can explore different avenues of life and enrich ourselves with its many paths.
