Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy. ~ Pema Chodron

The quote above by Pema Chodron is titled “Letting There Be Room”. Her spiritual guidance serves as a beautiful and poignant reminder that when it all comes down to it, life isn’t something that happens to you; life happens for you (for your healing). And, ultimately, life just happens.

The joy and the pain, just happens. The love and the loss, just happens. The victory and the testing; it all just happens — not because of who you are (or aren’t) or what you’ve done (or haven’t); at least not primarily.

To be sure, we make choices and experience the consequences of those choices. But all of the choices and consequences are a part of life’s journey. And we travel not to reach some specific destination but to pick life lessons like flowers lining our life path. And then one day to pause and admire with gratitude the beautiful bouquet of life experience we’ve gathered along the way. (more…)

About 14 years ago, I was attending a workshop and heard someone say “I was ‘called’ to do…”  Later that same day, I heard someone else say “I was ‘called’ to do…”  Each time I heard the phrase “I was called”, I felt a rumbling inside of me deep within my belly, which I refer to as the seat of my soul.  I couldn’t take it anymore, so I leaned to the row in front of me, excused myself and asked what did they mean by “I was called”.  The people smiled and said “God is directing me to do something…I have a calling.”  At that moment, I knew that I had a Soul Call.  There had been something stirring in my Spirit for weeks…I had spoken about it and thought about it BUT I hadn’t done anything about it.  I now knew it was time!  I left the workshop, got in my car and made a call immediately to put the plan in motion.  In true Spirit form, everything fell right into place! Let Integrity Be Your Guide

Integrity CompassHaving integrity means being GUIDED by a personal moral leading that whispers constantly to you to do the “right” thing, even (and especially) when no one is watching. Integrity is an act of courage. It’s saying what you mean and meaning what you say, even when it’s difficult to do so.

Too often we shrink away from the truth under the misbelief that we are helping someone else by standing between them and the truth. We can all look back over our lives and identify the ways both big and seemingly small we took the easy way out and delivered “a little white lie”. We think it’s safe, expedient and harmless because, after all, “what people don’t know won’t hurt them, right?” Wrong.

The reality is (more…)

As we grow, we realize it becomes less important to have more friends and more important to have real ones.

Remember, life is kind of like a party.  You invite a lot of people, some leave early, some stay all night, some laugh with you, some laugh at you, and some show up really late.  But in the end, after the fun, there are a few who stay to help you clean up the mess.  And most of the time, they aren’t even the ones who made the mess.  These people are your real friends in life.  They are the ones who matter most.

Here are 15 things real friends do differently!
